For my great-nephew’s second birthday his parents threw him a party at the Memphis Zoo. I could not remember the last time I had gone to a zoo. I think it was a couple of decades ago and I’m pretty sure it was the Bronx Zoo. I didn’t get to see everything that day – ’cause I got tired! I’m sure we’ll go back. I took a lot of pictures until the battery for my camera died and my phone ran out of juice. Here are some of my favorite photos:
This is the main entrance.
The first animals we saw, on our way to the party room, were the big cats.
The scenery and decor were top notch.
The bald eagle always looks so majestic.
Educational information was plentiful.
Giraffes are big – the tongue alone is 20″ long. According to Wikipedia, ‘It is purplish-black in color, perhaps to protect against sunburn, and is useful for grasping foliage, as well as for grooming and cleaning the animal’s nose.’
Baby giraffes are just too cute!
Elephants are quite impressive when you see them in person.
This gorilla looks like he’s planning his escape.
What a great day!
