Welcome to my new website! I have been telling you about it for a long time and now it’s ready to be shared.
First, I have to tell you what happened last year – not as a ‘woe is me’ story but more as a ‘don’t let this happen to you’ story. In January of 2016, the external hard drive that housed my photos died and I was not able to save all of them. I spent much of the year trying to recreate them. I’m talking about over 40,000 photographs taken over 17 years. It was frustrating, to say the least.
One of my biggest problems was that iPhoto became Photos, so half of my pictures were in the first format and the other half for the second and that didn’t make things easy! I did find some cool software that allowed me to change file attributes (like date created) and that helped me greatly – see my resource page.
My advice is to backup your photos on more than one source. I now upload my photos to the cloud and back them up on an external hard drive… or two!
The good news is that I have continued to take pictures and have tons to share with you. I have remained active on Instagram – which posts to Twitter and FaceBook. Isn’t technology amazing?!
You may remember that I retired in August of 2015. Since then I have been to the beach a few times and did the five-state shuffle to see my family a couple of times. There have been good times – the birth of my great-nephew and a Carribean cruise – and bad times – my dad was in the hospital for over a month last year and recently lost his wife.
My photography club is still active and we have done some fun stuff including going to my first air show and seeing the Blue Angels. Last year I produced my first product – a calendar of flowers! I received a request for birds on the next one so I have been stalking birds lately.
I think that brings you up-to-date. I hope you will continue to follow me along on this journey – one picture at a time!
